Benefits of a sliding door

A sliding door is a fantastic addition to any home. For example, it connects different parts of your home in a stylish, unique way. There are numerous reasons to opt for a sliding door. We’ll sum them up for you. Adooré also offers sleek sliding doors, more info further on this page.

Sliding doors are guided by a rail hung from the ceiling or a wall. As a result, handling is both silent and smooth. Because the door slides sideways, it cannot slam shut due to drafts. A pleasant benefit that protects your door from damage.

With a sliding door, you can connect two spaces in a unique way or easily divide a space into 2 rooms without major work.

A traditional door such as a block door has a swivel angle that causes loss of space. This is not the case for sliding doors. The door slides along the wall and takes up less space. That way you can use the surface area in your home more efficiently.

If you want to give a room a new layout, it is best to choose a sliding door. This divides the space, but allows you to maintain the original feel of the room by opening it fully.

Enjoying super sunny days

Glass sliding doors

A sliding glass door is a great way to connect two spaces. It provides a sense of luxury and allows plenty of light through. This will better illuminate your interior and allow you to enjoy those super sunny days even more.

In modern interiors, clear, tempered glass feels completely at home. Do you prefer a sliding door that lets in a fair amount of light but also provides privacy? Then frosted glass or sandblasted glass is a better alternative.

Translucent

Steel look sliding walls

A steel look sliding wall is a type of door that consists of several sections of glass that are split with aluminum or wood that is finished to have a steel look.
In our showroom, people often ask about glass doors or sliding walls while they actually mean this variant.
So popularly, steel look sliding walls are sometimes called sliding glass walls or sliding doors.

Full freedom in design

Custom sliding doors

When you buy a house, doorways are already there. These are often based on standard dimensions. This is a limitation that takes away a lot of freedom in terms of design. The convenient thing about a custom sliding door is that you enjoy full freedom in design. You can, for example, opt for a door that is slightly larger than the doorway.

Do you have different doorways that are not standard sizes? If so, a custom sliding door is a real must. You choose the size and shape that best suits your interior. Feel free to call on our experience to determine which sliding door is best for your situation.

With our craftsmanship and experience, you’ll sleep on both ears. We provide each door with the desired dimensions and a perfect finish. Would you like more info on our custom sliding doors? Feel free to contact us to discuss all options.

Sense of space

Double sliding doors

A double sliding door consists of 2 panels, each of which you can adjust separately. With this door, you make the most of a spacious passageway and create a grand feeling in your home. Just like our other sliding doors, these are available in different materials such as wood and steel.

Fully opening the double sliding doors creates a sense of space as the two adjoining rooms become one. There is a double sliding door for everyone that fits seamlessly into their interior.

Do you opt for the variant where the panels slide on one rail? Then they come up against each other when the door is closed. Many people prefer this variant. If you prefer to save as much space as possible, the 2-rail variant is a better choice. With this, the 2 panels hang over each other when the door is open.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

A sliding door takes up less space than a swing door, but of course you need some room to walk through the doorway. You save space because there is no turning angle, you still have to count 70-80 cm to create a passage. In terms of thickness, you should count 5 to 10 cm to mount the sliding door.

The price of an interior sliding door depends on the material used, its finish, the mounting system and, of course, its dimensions. With us, you get an instant quote when you stop by to choose a door. That way you’ll know the price of your new door right away.

A sliding door costs more than standard swing doors. It does have some advantages that a swing door does not. So think carefully about whether you can take full advantage of these benefits.

Nearly any swing door can be used as a sliding door. With this, the door is mounted along the top, on the rail, instead of along the side of the doorway using hinges.

The recessed track must be mounted in the ceiling before the walls are installed. After the latter is done, the rest of the sliding door can be installed.

When the sticker has already been and the ceiling has been reinforced, the sliding door can be mounted on the ceiling.

A sliding door can be surface mounted against the ceiling or against the wall. Important here is that the ceiling is reinforced in the case of a suspended ceiling. Also for wall mounting, the wall should be reinforced if the wall is gyproc. With stone walls or vaulted ceilings, no reinforcement is needed. There are also recessed systems that can be built into the ceiling. These should already be installed in structural phase.

A recessed rail must be installed in structural stage before the occupier comes. The sliding door itself is retrofitted, possibly along with the regular doors. A surface-mounted sliding door (wall or ceiling) can be measured and installed once everything is plastered and the floor is in place.

In most cases, a sliding door hangs about 1 to 1.5 inches from the wall. This can vary from system to system and sometimes also depends on the thickness of the baseboards. In fact, the sliding door should not touch the baseboards to function properly.

Standard 2.5cm overlap is provided on each side. If desired, the overlap can also be wider. Less overlap is not appropriate in most cases because you can then see sideways between the door and the wall.

Sliding doors are not usually fitted with a lock. However, there are ways to lock a sliding door, but then something must be provided in the wall to provide a lock, which is not always obvious. This is best considered situation by situation.

With a sliding door, always keep in mind that you provide enough space for the door to slide away. You always need at least the width of the doorway next to the door to be able to slide the door away and use the full passage.

If you are going to install a sliding door between 2 walls or between wall and closet, be sure to choose a track system where the interior track can be disassembled. Then, should there ever be anything to the system, you don’t have to tear down the entire wall/cabinet
